2009 Batsto Show Bottles
The Wheaton Arts Glass Blowers did a great job of blowing some bottles using Tom McCandless' Insect Destroyer bottle mold. There were lot of challenges that the blowers faced that day. The biggest obstacle was the weather. There was a heavy rain Sunday morning and intermittent showers continued till noon. Finally at about 1 p.m. they began making their first attempts at producing an Insect Destroyer bottle. The mold was an old cast iron type weighing 74 pounds. The small sized cavity of this mold presented a degree of difficulty for the blowers. They were able to work till about 3 p.m when a light rain sprinkle interrupted their work. At 3:30 they attempted 3 tries in the Pike's Peak flask mold and that was it for the day. It was unfortunate that the weather prevented them the time and opportunity to work with the molds and familiarize themselves with their use. Despite the hardships the blowers did an excellent job of blowing some bottles. Jim, Matt and Frank also blew one free blown piece for themselves.
